CW/TW: We’re covering Catch and Kill, a book that goes into detail about the allegations made against disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein. These allegations involve sexual abuse, including rape. If you think this subject may elicit a harmful emotional response within you — please don’t listen. Take care of yourself. ♡
It was a public secret. Carnivorous monsters were devouring bodies and souls. Powerful predators had infested a beloved industry. The bravest among the blameless began collecting names, dates, and evidence. One-by-one, their stories were caught and killed. For over 30 years, Harvey Weinstein was left to his own devices, and in his wake were scores of humans forever altered. Some contacted the police. Some moved out of the country. Some sued. And some talked.
Catch and Kill is the story of how big media and Hollywood worked together to protect a disease while simultaneously silencing victims. It unveils, in detail, what one group of reporters did to bring down the system, and it names those who stood in their way.
Before reviewing Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow, we provide some practical tips on what to do if you’re ever sexually harassed at work.
You Should Know: Although four scores of women have come forward against Weinstein, and the court of public opinion has already sentenced him, his future is currently being weighed in the hands of the United States’ judicial system. He’s on trial. New evidence is being presented as we speak, but much of it was brought to light only because of the hard work of Ronan Farrow and other journalists, producers, and media execs who were willing to sacrifice their reputations and careers to expose the truth. These include Rich McHugh, Jodi Kantor, Megan Twohey, and many more.
The bravest in this book are the women who came forward to name names and place blame on the most powerful people in their universe. We are going to deal with this topic, and their stories, respectfully.
